What do I see
I am open to a wide range of referrals, varying greatly on the age of the patient. The more important consideration being the nature of the work and treatment the patient may be seeking. The work may question any question, trauma, problem, presentation or dilemma that a patient or parent may wish to speak through, gain an understanding of and seek guidance and treatment.

The experience and clinical approach of any therapist varies greatly and is far more relevant that their primary discipline discipline. Medicare rebates mean that it is cheaper in the longer term to see a psychiatrist, with no limit on the number of sessions in a year that are rebatable.
For adults, GPs should consider a referral to a psychotherapist instead of a psychologist.
For children, referrals should be considered instead of to a developmental paediatrician, psychologist or speech pathologist. I will involve a clinician from these disciplines if clinically indicated.ent for.
Common referrals that are generally unsuitable
In recent years psychiatrists are increasingly referred patients for a one-off diagnostic assessment for:
Autism or ADHD in adults, with a view to a formal written assessment and prescriptions for medication.
Since my work involves longer term therapy, and almost never involves complex medication matters I am not the best person to help with such requests. I do not do medico-legal or insurance work at present.
Clinical supervision or mentoring
Since becoming a consultant in 2011, I have supervised many clinicians across all all disciplines, and of different levels of qualification and experience. I offer one off, ongoing, individual or group supervision of different sorts in person and online. If you have any queries about finding a supervisor or clinical mentor feel free to get in touch.
